   This academic year the Department of Urdu, Kirori Mal College, apart from conducting routine teaching work made successful efforts to organize other academic and literary activities for benefit of students in particular and academic community in general. Like every year, the Department conducted the “Nesab (Syllabus) Lectures” this year also. Keeping in view the likely implementation of Semester System from the next academic session, the Department thought it appropriate to convert this year’s “Nesabi Lectures” into a workshop on revising the syllabus according to the new Semester System.
   Therefore, on February 09, 2011 a one-day seminar-cum-workshop was held in the Seminar room of Kirori Mal College with the sponsorship of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, New Delhi. This programme was organized in close co-ordination and collaboration of the Urdu Department of the University. In this seminar-cum-workshop, teachers and scholars of Urdu and other sister disciplines of all University colleges were invited to participate in the deliberations to upgrade and revise the Under-graduate Urdu syllabi of Delhi University according to Semester System and needs of the present-day world. All teachers and scholars actively participated in the proceedings of the seminar and finally formed various committees to upgrade and revise the entire Urdu Syllabi at Under-graduate level. The Committees are still actively engaged in this work under the aegis of the Department of Urdu, University of Delhi. This event was widely covered by the Urdu media in Delhi.

   On February 10, 2011 the Department also organized one-day literary and cultural programmes under the aegis of “Baz-e-Adab” a literary and cultural Organ of the students of Urdu Department of the college. This literary association of students is democratically elected by themselves. The students organized various literary and cultural programmes and other competitive events with participation of students of different colleges and the university. Teachers also participated in this programme as chief guest and guests of honour.

   At the commencement of this academic year itself the said association of the students traditionally organized a ‘Freshers’ Welcome’ programme.

   On March 09, 2011 a seminar and literary programme entitled “Meet Your Author” was organized by the Department. In this programme eminent literary personalities were invited to interact with students and teachers. They spoke on various subjects of relevance in the meeting including on Faiz Ahmad Faiz whose centenary celebrations are being held in India.

   At the end it would not be inappropriate to mention that three guest teachers have been appointed to share the work load of a vacant post this academic session in the Department. Besides, two guest teachers of Persian are also engaged to teach Persian to students of B.A. (Hons.) Urdu I year and B.A. (programme).

   The students of Department also took keen interest and contributed articles to “Outlook” magazine of the college to be published shortly.

   Overall, this academic year turned out to be very successful and fruitful for the Department of Urdu. The syllabus was completed on time by full co-operation of all teachers.

   Urdu Students of Kirori Mal College elect office bearers of “Bazm-e-Adab”

   A meeting of students of B.A. (H) 1st, 2nd & 3rd year of Department of Urdu, Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, was jointly held on 8th September 2011 at 10 a.m. in room No. 104 for electing office bearers of “Bazm-e-Adab” (a literary and cultural society of Urdu Department) for the academic session 2011-2012.

   “Baz-e-Adab” is a literary and cultural Organ of the students of Urdu Department of the college. This literary association of students is democratically elected by themselves. The students organize various literary and cultural programmes and other competitive events like “Bait Bazi”, “Ghazal Sarai”, “literary quizzes” and debates with participation of students of different colleges and the university.
   Besides this, the organization actively promotes all academic endeavours of the Department and extends help in organizing seminars, cultural programmes and other academic activities successfully.

   This literary organ of the Department coordinates and finalizes the contributions of Urdu students to the yearly magazine of Kirori Mal College.

   This association of the students traditionally organizes ‘Freshers’ Welcome’ and valedictory programmes for B.A (H) III year students.

   “Bazm-e-Adab also seeks to organize programmes with eminent literary personalities where they are invited to interact with students and teachers. It also helps the Department in organization of annual “lectures” in which Urdu scholars from within and without the University are invited to deliver lectures on various aspects of Urdu literature to augment the usual class room teachings and broaden the outlook of the students on various literary subjects.
